Q: Is it plausible to buy a used jeep wrangler for $2-3000?
I am getting ready to start shopping for a car, and would love to buy a Jeep Wrangler. The only problem is that i am low on cash. I will be buying the car used, with under 80,000 miles on it. I just wanted to know if this was reasonable, and if so, could i get a link to just an example of this Jeep for under $3500 or so.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: I am looking for a good YJ jeep wrangler to get. What year and size engine is best? what to look for in used?
I onced owned a 90 6-cylinder & had to sell it for my car to save on gas. Now I’m not driving as much I want to get a jeep again. I prefer the YJ 1992-1995. I don’t want a carburetor because they don’t seem effecient. Any advice for what to get or what to look for in a used wrangler? Is the 2.5L 4 cylinder too weak of an engine?I dont plan on wheelin it but I want to be able to take a good trail or I wouldn’t get a jeep.I want to buy one in stock condition because I know why people get their jeep’s built to take off road… they take them off road. What I mean is I trust the history of a stock vehicle better. Are there problem area’s I should look for or avoid in buying a used 92-95 wrangler? My old jeep was a soft top and I was wondering if hard tops leak after the seal is broken once you take it off? I dont want people thinking I am not a jeep guy,I know what I am getting into and thats why I am going back,I just was wondering what anyone had for advice or what to look for. Thanks!

A: I had a 95 and was very pleased other than the performance of the 4 cylinder. It got great gas mileage and had more than enough pep around town, but it suffered on the interstate and in hilly ground trying to keep your speed up. A 4 cylinder is fine off road due to most trails are low speed and you can use the gears for power, plus more power can mean more breakage. If you can find one though the 6-cyl. is the best bet. Mine also had a hard top which is GREAT but be sure to have a soft top for the summer months because the hard top is a pain to take off all the time. My top did leak after it was removed the first time and the problem was the seal above the vent windows that didn’t seal up good against the top. One other problem to be aware of is they have weak 5-speed transmissions. I lost 5th gear two times in it and a friend of mine now has 5th gear out on her 95 model also. Don’t get me wrong, I had it for 10 years and had great luck out of it overall. Other than the transmission I only did oil changes on it and regular maintenance. Good luck!

Q: What is the average cost of a used Jeep Wrangler?
I was thinking somewhere around 2002-2006, what would be the average price?

A: Whatever the average buyer is willing to pay for it.

Q: Which used jeep wrangler is best?
I am a first time car buyer, and i am looking for a jeep wrangler. which year and model is best?

A: 1997 – 2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ is what I prefer. Then a 2003 – 2006 TJ Rubicon is the best of the TJs.. Just make sure that you get one with a 4.0 I-6 motor.

Q: 2007 Jeep Wrangler used in nj?
I am really interested in buying a 2007 used jeep wrangler sport. I think they’re really cute and I want one as my first car. However I can’t find too many cheap ones. I don’t mind settling on a 2006, and I prefer it to be black. Any help?

A: Typically Wranglers hold their resale value VERY well…It’s a fun vehicle and are usually in high demand so the prices don’t drop very fast.
That being said, they are in MORE demand in the summer vs the winter, so you may have better luck finding someone who’s tired of driving one in the winter and wants to sell.

Jeep changed the body style in 2007 to the JK, so if you look at a 2006 you are looking at a different wrangler (TJ). There are several differences and the interior of the JK is VERY different than the TJ.

Q: the best place to find a used jeep wrangler?
want to find a used jeep wrangler under $4000

A: I dont know where you are located but best bet would be…

http://craigslist.org (in your area)
http://cars.com

http://autotrader.com

Hope That Helps

Q: im lookin to buy a used jeep wrangler?
where are some places besides craigslist i can go to find a used jeep wrangler for around $3000 in florida?
ty :D

A: If you find a jeep for less than $3,000 you need to be very weary of it. Its either going to be in ROUGH shape, or need a lot of repair work.
Generally Wranglers hold their value very well. They’re generally reliable, but more than that there’s always buyers so supply/demand helps keep the cost up. The problem is sometimes the older they are, the value starts to go back up (CJ’s are highly sought after). Your best bet is to find an old YJ (late 80’s early 90’s) but know the YJs are very rugged by modern day standards and will more than likely need a lot of tjc to keep running as a daily driver. They are generally rough to drive also because they don’t use coil suspension but are very easy to work on. You’ll know it’s a YJ because it will have square headlights.
To give perspective. I bought a 2005 wrangler (TJ) sport off a lady who mistakenly thought she was a jeep girl (and found out it wasn’t for her…so she was looking to get rid of it fast). It had 48,000 and I got it for a steal at $13,500. (Sport, soft top). Generally an 05, under 50,000 goes for $15,000 without a hardtop.

Q: How much would a used 1997 used jeep wrangler be?
just an estimate

A: with 4cyl about 4000 to 5500 depending on the upgrades
with a 6cyl. about4500 to 7000 depending on upgrades

Q: I want a used Jeep Wrangler, Sahara or Rubicon?
I will be using this Wrangler only on road not on any rocks or stuff like that.I will use it just like any regular car. What options should I go for? Hard or soft top? Navigation system or not? Half metal doors or full? And most importantly, STANDARD or AUTO trans? How much would all of this cost?

A: Great questions. You are very smart to ask before you buy.
I just went through this with my daughter. We just helped her buy a used jeep. We went looking for a wrangler but bought a different jeep. Which one? I will tell you at the end of this reply.
Are you buying new or used?
We bought used. The Rubicon option is named after the famous Lake Tahoe off road trail. It is an expensive upgrade meant to allow a jeep to negotiate this very rugged off road trail. This upgrade is not necessary if you are staying on the paved roads.
A Hard top is more secure, more quiet, and warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. You can always remove it for the summer and buy a soft bikini top. Navigation is subjective. Half or full doors to me are also subjective which just means these two options are more about your personal preference. An automatic transmission is better for driving in traffic. If you have the luxury of driving on traffic free roads the manual transmission is more fun and will give you a little better gas mileage if you drive it correctly.
After all of this my daughter drove several jeeps. She found them to be somewhat “rickety”. She saw a 4 wheel drive jeep Liberty drove it, fell in love with it, and bought it. I have to say the liberty is just a little more refined than the wrangler. I love wranglers she loves libertys.

Q: buying a used car jeep wrangler?
can anyone tell me what is a good deal for buying a used jeep wrangler, i’m a chick n don’t know much about cars! like what is a good milage, and price? thank you all! and is there anything i should look for?
any year specific? i want to stay within the 2k-7 k 7k being the top price i’ve seen a lot of 1990’s

A: I am a chick that recenlty purchased a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport for $8000. I think I got a great deal since the Jeep has everything I wanted. I needed an automatic because I am terrible driving stick. I also wanted both the hard top and the soft top which mine came with. My jeep gets around 18 miles per gallon which is not great but it is so worth it. I would definately go for the 6 cylinder though, much better engine and my mechanic says it will last a lot longer than the 4 cylinder. You can get a nice Jeep for a decent price if you are ok with higher mileage (which really isn’t a big deal, Jeeps will last forever) Now that I have had my first Jeep I will own one forever. Good luck with your purchase!

Q: New or Used jeep Wrangler?
I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee with 150,800 miles on it, i want to upgrade to a jeep wrangler, but i dont know if its better to buy a used one or to trade the cherokee in and get a new wrangler?

A: If your Cherokee is a 4×4 and running well…why not put some money into it and upgrade that way?

Even used Wranglers in good shape are quite pricey.

You may get a little better off road capability with the Wrangler (new or used), but the Cherokee has it’s own advantages such as more cargo/passenger space…more comfort…better safety…and can do almost as much off road as a stock Wrangler in the hands of an experienced driver.

I’ve driven both, and each has it’s advantages…but I am partial to the Cherokee (if you couldn’t already tell).

Good Luck on whatever you decide.

Q: is a used jeep wrangler worth getting ?
i saw a jeep wrangler unlimited or rubicon and it was selling for $21,990 (australian) ( im not entirely sure if its used but im guessing it is considering the price…)

A: it is a good reliable vehicle. if you are looking for for something to use off road then this is the car for you

Q: how much would a used jeep wrangler be?
i want a jeep wrangler the model year can be from any where around 2003 to 2008

A: Go to www.kbb.com see what is the average and then go to craigslist and see what they are going for in a big city near you, go from there

Q: Is buying a used Jeep Wrangler a good buy? Need advice before hubby buys one.?
We can only afford a used one maybe no more than $9K.

A: As a long term Wrangler owner, I’d have to say YES–as long as you do your homework regarding blue book, etc. It’s not unusual for Wranglers to actually sell for higher than blue book, though, depending on what part of the country you’re living in. You’ll want to do a little research regarding the market in your specific location before you buy.

I’ve owned three Wranglers–I bought the first two used, drove both for a few years, then sold each of them for more than I paid for them. This past year, I finally went in and bought one brand new, right off the lot. They’re fun vehicles, and as vehicles go, a decent investment. I wouldn’t drive anything else! Good luck..and have fun! :) It’s a JEEP thing!

Q: Used Jeep Wrangler? please help?
I’m looking for a used Jeep Wrangler(1990-2000) in southern California, anybody know a place that is specialized in used jeeps or a good way to find one. And if any of you know anybody that is selling one that would be even better, if they are in my area.

A: It looks great for an 89 , i didn’t notice the mileage or how many cyl. If it’s original engine it’s carburated also…. One issue the YJ’s had was the frame … You would really have to get under this one and check it all out before you say yes… My wife has the same yr wrangler and we had some issues that needed welding … We also changed the stock Carter Carb to a Webber because of how crappy it ran … Runs great since then …..no issues since we resolved those two and its been two + years …. You could look on e-bay motors to start , that will give you many options …. Good Luck
